About Group functions

Group functions in DNV are experts on finance and accounting, human resources, communication and sustainability, legal, tax and compliance – providing company-wide support, governance and strategic projects. Group also includes our strategic Research and Development unit, which provides science-based insights and foresight to tackle transformations and challenges across the industries we serve.

About the role

The maritime industry is undergoing significant transformations this decade in its quest to achieve net zero emissions. Cleaner, albeit more expensive, fuels are becoming more accessible, while alternative propulsion methods and enhanced efficiency offer additional cost-saving opportunities. Furthermore, advancements in connectivity and IoT are enabling predictive maintenance, sophisticated route optimization, and just-in-time arrivals.

These transitions are driven by the European Union and the International Maritime Organization, which set ambitious goals and expectations for shipping companies (e.g., FEUM, CII). Navigating and complying with these regulations is becoming increasingly challenging.

On this path to decarbonization and digitalization, DNV stands as an independent partner to both ship owners and regulators, committed to providing guidance and insights.

To address these critical topics in maritime sustainability, we are offering the following projects in the Research department:

Project FEUM: Exploring Shipowners’ Challenges with Maritime Regulations (1 students)

Project CCS: Assessment of Carbon Capture and Storage Solutions for Green Corridors (1 student)

Project LCA: Environmental Impacts of Antifouling and Plastics (1 student)

We are seeking enthusiastic and creative summer students to join our team and contribute to projects focused on decarbonization and maritime sustainability.

As a selected candidate, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore Hot Topics in Maritime Research: Delve into areas such as Fuel EU Maritime and EU MRV, on-board carbon capture, green corridors, biofouling, and marine pollution.
  • Play for the “Red Team”: Identify technical vulnerabilities in novel technologies.
  • Wear a Captain’s Hat: Understand regulatory challenges from the perspective of shipowners.
  • Assess Environmental Impacts: Evaluate the effects of shipping on biodiversity and marine life.
  • Collaborate with Experts: Work with internal and external industry experts and stakeholders to gain insights and validate findings.
  • Engage in Social Activities: Join the vibrant community of summer students at Høvik and participate in various social summer activities.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the maritime industry, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and contribute to projects with real-world impact. #summerjob
