Do you have broad background and skills in engineering of Automation systems for the maritime business? Would you like to take your career further by joining a start-up company and lay the foundation for a future oriented Integrated Automation System (IAS) which is to be seamlessly integrated with a new digital platform?

In the role as Senior Automation Engineer, you will lead a growing team of automation specialists and define the software and hardware architecture from the start. This team will closely collaborate with a team of IT programmers to bring a new level of functionalities and possibilities to monitoring, control, safety, reporting and compliance within shipping. Especially we will aim to make ship-borne data available for all relevant stakeholders and explore new ways of taking advantage of the data. AI and Machine Learning is knocking on the door also within the maritime business, not to forget coming electrification, automation, and autonomy solutions. All is set for no less than a revolution for how ships are engineered, built, operated, monitored and governed.

Acting as the senior engineer for how our Automation Systems will be defined, engineered and delivered, you should have the following qualifications:

  • A degree in automation, and maybe computer science or related field
  • Preferable with experience in programming automation and electric power systems for ships.
  • Some years of relevant experience in the maritime industry.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in programming of automation, energy and power systems.
  • Insight in and keen interest of how User Experience and User Interface is built into alarm, monitoring, control and cloud systems.
  • Be pro-active in how ship systems can be interfaced and integrated with cloud services in order to bring proper and necessary insight into ship operation to land-based stakeholders
  • Be a driving force in exploration of how AI and Machine Learning concepts and applications can be utilized to enhance ship operations and reporting.

Work description:

  • From the start engage with suppliers of sw and hw relevant for automation systems and define the system architecture
  • Initially be involved in recruitment of further automation specialists
  • Lead and coach the team in using sound programming processes and later project engineering and delivery
  • Stay informed and explore improved or new technology, and be responsible for what technology the company utilizes and how
  • Develop and lead new, or improved, plans for the company’s product portfolio
  • Work closely with the team developing the IT platform related to cloud services
  • Assure compliance to departmental internal processes and external regulations and requirements to products, documentation and services
  • Play a central role in how products and systems are installed, commissioned and serviced
  • Closely engage with relevant market actors like ship owners, yards, suppliers and partners.
  • Take part in marketing events, especially when the company is present at exhibitions
  • Participate in extensive testing and approval processes until the automation systems and the IT platform is ready for launch in the maritime markets.
  • Attend meetings with various stakeholders across the supply chain, such as suppliers, class societies, national regulators, customers, and others.
  • Engage in start-up and commissioning of new solutions sold by the company.
  • Support the engineering team and create software tools and processes that enable them to work independently.
  • Attend relevant seminars, conferences, and exhibitions to keep up with the latest trends and developments in software programming and the maritime sector.
  • Be proactive and solution-oriented in taking the digital platform forward.

The second partner is Baumuller Anlagen-Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, a company that is part of the Baumüller Group, headquartered in Nürnberg, Germany. The company has nearly 40 years of experience in delivering machine and system automation solutions.

The third partner is a group of experts and enthusiasts in the field of hybrid power and energy systems, who have extensive knowledge and network in the maritime sector.
