About the role

Senior/Principal Consultant – Sustainable Ship Recycling and Biofouling Management

Do you want to become a trusted voice on environmental issues in the maritime industry?

The Environmental Advisory section in DNV Maritime supports our customers with optimizing their decisions on environmental technology, low- and zero-emission fuels, and greenhouse gas (GHG) and environmental policy and strategy. With more than 20 years of service deliveries dedicated to ship emissions and abatement strategies, our interdisciplinary teams have expertise both down to the details and along the bigger lines.

Ship recycling has previously been largely unregulated, but the shipping industry is now entering a new era with the implementation of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC). Compliance with the HKC will place new requirements on both recycling yards and ship owners, and DNV is in a central position to assist both. We currently support the European Commission in their assessments of ship recycling yards for inclusion on the EU-list of approved facilities, and we expect demand for such services to increase.

Similarly, new national requirements on biofouling management are emerging, placing new demands on technology providers, ship owners and ports. New guidelines from IMO are expected, and Norway together with several other countries have also suggested to develop a global legally binding framework for control and management of shipsʹ biofouling to minimize the transfer of invasive aquatic species, and also to minimize other pollutants related to in-water cleaning. DNV supports all stakeholders in this work, and demand for services is increasing.

Our section is uniquely positioned to provide trusted knowledge and advice as a basis for development of government policy and regulations. Working at the intersection of field inspections and regulatory development, our competence is highly sought for both in industry and in the public sector.

Due to a high, sustained demand for our competences and services, we are now looking for a new colleague to strengthen our team. We are seeking a candidate for a Senior/Principal Consultant position.

The right candidate will contribute to:

  • Leading and participating in complex ship recycling yard assessments and inspections, delivering high-quality reports with focus on EHS
  • Assessments related to a broad range of environmental issues within ship recycling such as environmental monitoring and waste management
  • Participating in regulatory development projects, delivering high-quality reports related to biofouling and ship recycling
  • Leading and participating in relevant pilots under the Green Shipping Program
  • Assessments and advisory work related to technology providers of in-water hull cleaning and biofouling prevention systems
  • Marketing, sales, and business development related to the above

We offer:

  • Attractive total compensation package
  • Flexible working scheme with the opportunity to work from home and focus on work/life balance
  • 6 weeks annual vacation
  • Great colleagues who value teamwork and support
  • Interesting and challenging projects being run all over the world
