Our mission is to provide innovative services critical to society, unlocking a cleaner, better, and more profitable future. Working towards this goal, Volue has become a leading technology supplier and enabler of the green transition, helping energy companies simplify and optimize everyday operations.

We are now looking for a Senior Data Scientist who can help us to continuously improve Volue’s ability to provide value to customers in line with the Volue mission.

In Volue Insight we enable our customers to make data driven decisions – spanning from creating pricing models for their energy products, when to buy energy, to investment in renewable power plants or power-consuming industry.

The Short Term team in Volue Insight builds and maintains models and related data for price forecasting. The team focuses on forecasts for the spot market, intraday market, and imbalance markets, across Europe and Japan. In addition, the team develops and maintains our service providing UMM (urgent market message) data. We aim to be the team with full ownership for our products – from data ingestion, feature engineering, forecasting, to data visualization. We continuously improve our models to ensure the best possible performance and keep up with changes in the markets, for example the introduction of flow based market coupling in the Nordics.

What you will be doing to make a difference:

  • Design, develop and maintain forecasting models.
  • Keep on top of developments in the data science and time series forecasting field, evaluate and implement state of the art forecasting models for our use cases.
  • Build and maintain flexible and scalable end-to-end data pipelines, in collaboration with data engineers.
  • Together with product management, incorporate the results of our models into convincing products for our customers.
  • Contribute to our continuous push towards highly scalable and automated forecasting models where performance is monitored, quality is evaluated continuously and where we can experiment with model improvements with very little friction.

What you need to succeed:

  • Relevant education on MSc-level.
  • 5+ years of experience building machine learning models of production-grade quality.
  • 2+ years of experience in either data science applications in (short-term) electricity markets, or in time-series forecasting in another domain.
  • Expertise in software engineering using python - mastering python as a language, some experience in software design and architecture.
  • It is an advantage if you have proven experience in MLOps related topics like model evaluation, model monitoring and observability, and handling of data quality issues.
  • Ability to work well in a team located across different locations - you are a good communicator with the focus on collaboration, and you are able to monitor and guide more junior colleagues.
  • Ability to manage own workload and to both plan and execute on a strategy.

Reasons to join Volue team and what we offer:

  • Large degree of influence in shaping and developing the role further.
  • Great colleagues in one of Europe’s most exciting green tech companies with an innovative and international work environment.
  • Creative and up-to-date working environment with great learning opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours and competitive compensation package with the opportunity to work from home.
  • Central office locations with good facilities (canteen in Oslo and Arendal, restocked fridge in Berlin).

We are looking to hire for Volue office in Oslo, Arendal or Berlin but will be ready to consider other locations for the right candidate.
