About the role

Maritime Advisory is an Independent Unit (IU) within DNV Maritime and employs about 300 consultants and engineers who support customers in the maritime industry globally in their efforts to make the right decisions to achieve sustainable operations and profitable results. We have the capabilities, experience, and track record to deliver high-value solutions, mobilize the full potential of customers’ assets and operations, and put technical matters and business decisions into a meaningful context to achieve optimal solutions. We are the preferred advisor in the ongoing process of achieving emission goals in the maritime industry.

Section for Machinery and Systems is responsible for providing technical services within the field of marine propulsion, shafting systems, power generation and auxiliary machinery systems. Beyond traditional- and hybrid machinery solutions, there is also a growing demand for services related to new environmentally friendly technologies, energy efficiency and know-how in alternative fuels. Services are delivered on a consultancy project-work basis primarily to the maritime-, but also to other industries. This includes ship owners and operators, but also yards and makers.

The Machinery and Systems section holds detailed competence in combustion engines, propulsion, turbo machinery. Herein also included drive train components such as shafts, couplings, gear transmissions, bearings etc., electric machines, batteries, hybrid systems as well as control- and system engineering and material technology. The section also serves as a competence unit in DNV and collaborates with our world-wide organization.

The section aims to strengthen its competence, to meet the growing demand for our services and market trends on new technologies, and further to develop- and to efficiently deliver relevant technical advisory services. The candidate is expected to contribute to successful co-operation with our clients as well as with other units in DNV, and to generate new projects.

We are now looking for a Project Engineer for our section and are seeking a candidate with good technical know-how within some- or all our competence areas and approx. 3-5 years of work experience.

Your main tasks will include some of the following elements:

  • Technical analyses of ship machinery such as feasibility studies, design assistance, verification work and energy efficiency / de-carb studies
  • Technical trouble shooting, operational failure- and root cause investigations
  • Strength and functionality analysis of power generating-machinery, drive-train components, incl material technology and dynamics
  • Systems analyses of conventional machinery solutions as well as assessments of hybrid machinery, incl. system engineering and simulations techniques

All team members will be involved in domestic and global business development through customer interactions by marketing, sales and project delivery.

About you

  • You should hold a M.Sc. degree within mechanical engineering, marine machinery or other relevant disciplines
  • You have good communication skills in English, verbally and in writing. Norwegian language skills is an advantage
  • Experience in mechanics, field work, measurement technology, repair or design will be an advantage
  • As a person you are self-motivated and with a strong result-oriented mind-set
  • You are also flexible, service-minded and with a positive attitude
  • Its important that you have a consultancy mindset
  • Finally, we expect that you are able to work- and deliver individually as well as in teams
