As a Launch Pad Operations Engineer, you play a critical role in the process of getting our rocket and its payload safely into orbit. You will join the operations team of the launch pad, being an essential part of the Test & Launch Department.
The team is performing development, verification and acceptance tests on rocket stages on our launch pad in Andøya. In addition to test campaigns, you will also be carrying out maintenance activities and preparatory operations for rocket launches from said launch site.
Since the launch pad is still under development, involvement in the build-up and commissioning phase is likely, as well as supporting the Lead Engineer of Launch Pad Operations in creating safe operational procedures, creating an operational routine etc.
Close cooperation with other departments such as Propulsion Technology, Test Facilities Development and Launch Vehicle is necessary since they are deeply involved in test and launch campaigns as key stakeholders.
More specifically, you will:
- Take care of test & launch preparations, troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance of the launch pad: both on paper and in reality
- Plan and conduct rocket stage test and launch campaigns together with the various involved design teams
- Ensure safe operation of the pad by using and developing procedures and processes
Who you are and what you have
- Relevant engineering qualification or engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of aerospace, mechanical engineering or similar
- Hands-on experience in development or testing of complex systems, preferably involving extreme operating conditions such as cryogenic temperatures, high pressures, or high temperatures
- Experienced in test data acquisition, reduction and evaluation
- Capable of designing fluid and mechanical systems from theoretical concept to realisation and commissioning
- Expert in multidisciplinary troubleshooting
- Ability to perform in high-stress environments, maintaining focus and concentration for long durations
- Adjusting self-sufficiently and quickly to a changing work environment
- Physical dexterity is required as working in confined spaces is necessary.
- Able to lift and carry 25kg
- EU category B driving license
- Fluent in English
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with fluid systems and piping/tubing
- Knowledge of hazardous systems (cryogenic, flammable, explosive or similar)
- Experience with instrumentation and control systems
- Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Matlab, C, C#...)
- Fluent in Norwegian
