About the role
Are you an electrical or automation engineer who thrives on variety, enjoys close customer interaction, and wants a meaningful role in the maritime industry?
Our DNV offices in Ålesund and Ulsteinvik are strengthening the team and are now looking for a motivated Electrical Surveyor to join us.
In the heart of the Sunnmøre maritime cluster, you will work with a broad range of customers – from innovative manufacturers to world‑class yards and shipowners – and contribute to safe and sustainable maritime operations.
You will be part of a Area Norway with 110 maritime specialists across 12 coastal offices. The Sunnmøre team plays a key role in supporting the strong maritime ecosystem in the region, from advanced newbuilds to innovative maritime technologies.
As an Electrical Surveyor, you will take part in surveys, inspections, and certification work for ships, newbuildings, mobile offshore units, and electrical/automation systems. Your workday will be diverse: sometimes in a workshop, sometimes onboard a vessel, and sometimes supporting clients remotely.
While the role is based locally, some travel to other DNV locations will be required.
Key responsibilities
- Certification of materials, electrical components, and control systems for ships and offshore units
- Survey and inspection of electrical and automation installations at manufacturers and yards
- Follow-up of newbuildings and conversions, including onboard surveys
- Technical support and guidance to customers
- Periodical surveys and assessments, both on-site and remote
- Contributing to a strong safety and quality culture in line with DNV’s standards
About you
What we are looking for:
Education and competence
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within electrical engineering, automation, or cyber security
- Experience from shipbuilding, maritime or offshore industry is an advantage, but not required
- Competence or interest in cyber security and autonomous systems is beneficial
- Valid driver’s license
Personal qualities
- Customer‑oriented and confident in client interactions
- Self-driven, proactive, and willing to share knowledge
- Open to change and comfortable with varied workdays
- Strong communication skills in both Norwegian and English
- Committed to safety, quality, and collaboration
