The position
By joining our team in Technology, Digital & Innovation you will have the opportunity to:
- Apply large language models (LLMs) to specific business problems to extract, process, classify and derive insights from the information hidden in unstructured datasets.
- Fine-tune domain or task specific language models for business problems when proprietary or off-the-shelf models cannot be used.
- Evaluate the performance of machine learning models and make recommendations for improvement.
- Experiment with key technologies to remain up to date with the state of the art in NLP and generative AI research.
- Write clean, efficient, and well documented Python code.
- Engage in teamwork across functional areas to determine and achieve shared visions for projects.
- Offer direction and expertise to junior team members, promoting a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.
- Actively participate in code reviews and contribute to the establishment of software development best practices.
Equinor is seeking an experienced Data Scientist with a strong passion for technology and innovation to join our dynamic Generative AI (GenAI) team. As part of the central Design, Software, and Data Science (DSD) unit within the Technology Digital and Innovation (TDI) department, the GenAI team specializes in applying generative AI models and technology to aid in Equinor's high-impact use cases. Your role will involve developing groundbreaking AI-driven products and solutions that significantly improve a broad spectrum of Equinor's business processes.

For this position, we are also looking for:
- Master’s Degree or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics or a related field. Relevant working experience may compensate for lack of education.
- 3+ years of experience working as a Data Scientist with hands-on experience with large language models. Strong background in utilizing modern NLP tools and libraries is an advantage.
- Advanced skills in Python development including libraries like NumPy, SciPy and experience with SQL.
- Hands-on experience working with generative AI concepts like LLMs, retrieval augmented generation, agents, image generation, speech-2-text, text-2-speech would be beneficial.
- Familiarity and experience working with generative AI frameworks (Langchain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, Azure OpenAI) would be beneficial.
- Experience with containerization, Kubernetes (K8S) and application deployment would be beneficial.
- Practical experience in working with cloud platforms, specifically MS Azure is preferred.
- Knowledge or experience with vector databases such as Azure AI Search, Pinecone, Milvus, or Weaviate would be beneficial.
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluency in English, both written and oral.
