About the role

DNV – Digital Solutions (DS) is seeking a Modeller to join our CFD team in Software Engineering in Trondheim, Norway, which is responsible for the KFX-Exsim software. (Other locations could be considered for the right candidate).

Much of the CFD software development is influenced and funded by large Joint Industry Projects (JIP) with major energy companies, in combination with feedback from the market and customers.

Two of DNV’s key strategic growth objectives are focused on digital transformation and energy transition, and these strategic objectives are reflected in the CFD development priorities.

Software Engineering is responsible for driving the technology strategy for the software business and for developing world class domain heavy software which is offered in multiple channels and through multiple platforms (desktop, hosted, Software as a Service). Software Engineering consists of approximately 300 staff in five Software Engineering departments and one common Centres of Enablement.

The position will report to the Head of the CFD Solutions team in Plant Software Engineering.

Tasks may include:

  • Daily work with modelling and development of the CFD software KFX-Exsim for gas dispersion, fire and explosion analyses. This includes also modelling and development of features for energy transition challenges related to hydrogen, ammonia, CO2 and LNG
  • Working closely with industry partners through JIPs for future development of KFX-Exsim.
  • Contribute to advanced advisory services
  • Work with integration of the various risk software in the Product Centre; KFX-Exsim, Phast, Safeti
  • Work closely with the modelling and development teams for Phast and Safeti for alignment of modelling, and development of new integrated tools
  • Work with digital transformation, for instance developing cloud applications for KFX-Exsim
  • Support in customer facing activities, such as support and training of users and conference presentations
  • Support to the marketing team in delivering user conferences, webinars, marketing material, white papers etc.
  • Writing articles for journals and conferences

Position Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another relevant scientific or engineering discipline
  • Experience/knowledge in relevant areas, such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer including radiation, thermodynamics, combustion including chemical kinetics, fire and explosion dynamics, and/or advanced mathematics
  • Good knowledge and experience in CFD modelling for turbulent flow, combustion, and numerical heat and mass transfer
  • Experience with KFX-Exsim as well as other CFD software used for safety purposes will be an advantage
  • Experience with high-performance computer languages such as C, C++ and Fortran
  • Good collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
