About us
We are the independent expert in assurance and risk management. Driven by our purpose, to safeguard life, property, and the environment, we empower our customers and their stakeholders with facts and reliable insights so that critical decisions can be made with confidence.
As a trusted voice for many of the world’s most successful organizations, we use our knowledge to advance safety and performance, set industry benchmarks, and inspire and invent solutions to tackle global transformations.
About Maritime
We help enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of our customers in the global shipping industry, covering all vessel types and mobile offshore units. As a partner to industry, we offer services in testing, certification, training, and technical advisory through the energy value chain. That means we’re continually investing heavily into R&D for new services and solutions while proactively assessing what the industry needs today and tomorrow.
About the role
The maritime industry is undergoing significant changes driven by decarbonization, safety enhancements, and cost reduction needs. Digitalization is key to these changes, requiring and enabling new levels of cooperation across the maritime supply chain involving ship owners, cargo owners, yards, OEMs, financing, ports and regulators including classification societies. DNV, with its global presence and strategic industry involvement, has a leading role in shaping and implementing these transformational changes. We aim to strengthen our position through industry foresight, collaboration, and state-of-the-art digital solutions.
As a Business Development Manager – Strategic Projects in our Strategic Business Development and Innovation unit, you will be at the heart of strategic growth opportunities that can become scalable products and services. Backed by DNV’s leading reputation, global network, and extensive resources, you will help turn industry insight into customer value and long-term impact.
Who you are:
The role calls for a business developer who can take the strategy, translate it into what it means for customers and for DNV, and lead the change through practical, phased steps that build the foundation while delivering value along the way. Your contribution will help address some of the maritime industry’s most important challenges. Externally, this means working with shipowners, operators and partners to understand their operations and shape services that create real value for them. Internally, it means connecting the relevant parts of the organization towards shared goals and direction. You will balance between external customer engagement and internal alignment, depending on where you can create the most value in each case.
You should excel at understanding customer needs and challenges, and leverage DNV’s strengths to help drive innovation into commercially viable and operationally realistic services for both DNV and our customers. You will earn and strengthen DNV’s reputation every day by representing our independent third-party role with credibility and by building trust through insight, collaboration, and delivery. While sales focus on closing deals and driving immediate revenue, Business Development in DNV emphasizes identifying and developing strategic opportunities, partnerships, and market positioning leading to new and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translating the strategy into phased plans that builds the foundation while delivering value to customers along the way, rather than waiting for a finished platform.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including ship owners, charterers, cargo owners, yards, OEMs, ports, and regulators.
- Working closely with colleagues across the business area and the wider regional organizations to align direction and anchor locally.
- Representing DNV's third-party role with credibility: understanding what independence and verification are worth to customers, and how they change as assurance becomes continuous and data driven.
- Enhance DNV’s market position in the maritime industry by building trusted relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and contributing to services that customers can rely on.
- Act as a catalyst for collaboration across teams, ensuring colleagues feel valued, heard, and connected to a shared direction.
What we offer

About you
What we are looking for:
- Strategic Experience: A track record of driving strategic, commercial, or business development change with limited direction, not only contributing to it. This may come from strategy, business development, management or technical consultancy, and/or complex sales, with the confidence to take ownership and move opportunities forward.
- Maritime Expertise: Experience and network in the maritime industry including keen understanding or interest in DNV’s 3rd party role/classification (or a comparable setting), including how that role is changing.
- Technical expertise: Enough fluency with data and digital services to be a credible partner to the technology side, or a clear appetite to build it.
- Ability: The ability to hold a complex strategy in your head and act on it with autonomy, moving things forward in sensible steps without waiting to be told what to do next, in a large matrix organization. You are motivated by learning, growth, and turning ambiguity into progress.
- Experience: Min 5 years of relevant experience.
- Education: BSc or MSc in relevant subject area.
- Location: Oslo, Norway
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as required.
