About the role

Materials & Welding is a key section within the Approval Centre Europe of Maritime Ship Classification, which spans Hamburg (Germany) Oslo (Høvik, Norway) and Gdynia (Poland). We focus on the approval, verification, and certification of maritime assets, as well as maintaining and developing our technical standards.

Our team of 17 engineers in Hamburg, Høvik,& Gdynia support global activities in materials and welding approvals, technical support, and rule development. Our expertise covers metallic and non-metallic materials, welding techniques, and additive manufacturing in the maritime industry.

At the Approval Centre, you’ll work in a professional, collaborative environment with opportunities for growth and international cooperation.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Approving manufacturers for metallic materials
  • Supporting our global surveyor network and customers
  • Delivering internal training on Materials & Welding
  • Participating in global expert network meetings
  • Maintaining and updating DNV rules and guidelines to reflect market trends

About you

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Materials Science, or a related discipline (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience, with expertise in metallic materials and welding methods; 'International Welding Engineer' certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods is preferred
  • Strong team player with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset and high personal integrity
  • Well-organized, with strong administrative skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Willingness to travel for client and global support
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is big a plus
